Vegan Hot Dogs or Veggie Sausages?

Usually, when I make what I call hot dogs, I use vegetarian sausages, which are suitable for vegans.

Fry them in a grill pan, cook them in the air fryer or bake them in the oven. Any way you cook them they are tasty.

Personally, I like the original Linda McCartney Vegetarian Sausages which I use in so many dishes and have been buying for many years.

This time I decided to try proper vegan hot dogs in the oven to see how well they cooked and they were great.

I bought Fry's Vegan Hot dogs, which were rather nice.

They cooked well but didn't crisp like veggie sausages, which was interesting.

So you end up with the texture of a hot dog, but you can chuck everything in the oven at once.

Why is Vegan Hot Dog Bake so Good?

Reasons why this hot dog bake is so good

  1. It's a one-pan dinner.
  2. Super easy to make.
  3. The sausages, veg and hot dog buns are all cooked together.
  4. So there's less washing up.
  5. The veg has that smoky flavour from roasting.
  6. It tastes great.
  7. Anyone could make it, it's a great dish for people that aren't confident in the kitchen or for anyone short of time or energy.

Kids Can Make Dinner Too

Kids love hot dogs and this is a great dish for them to make themselves with a bit of help with the oven.

You could even buy ready sliced onions to make it easier for them.

They can also pick their favourite toppings.

  1. Hot dogs - you could use veggie sausages instead
  2. Onions - you could use red onions instead
  3. Peppers - add peppers to the bake
  4. Buns - use burger buns instead and add a couple of hot dogs and more toppings
  5. Mayo - spread your buns with vegan mayo too if you like
  6. Ketchup - for a bit more flavour try my easy chipotle ketchup

I also have two other two other similar one-pot sheet pan dinners you may like, One-Pot Vegan Spaghetti Meatball Bake and Vegan Onion & Burger Bake.

Sausage Bake Top Tip

If your sheet pan is big enough or you use two, you could pop some oven chips in with the sausage bake to cook at the same time, then serve them with the hot dogs.

Some vegan coleslaw would be great on the side with some salad too. Try my vegan carrot dill coleslaw.

Sorted!

  • If you don't have hot dogs, you can use vegan sausages instead.
  • Don't have abig enough tray? You can use two large sheet pans or baking trays.
  • If you have enough room on your trays, you can cook oven chips at the same time to serve with the hotdogs.
