You'll all have heard about my new toy by now, I am sure. It's my brand new Vitamix.
So far I've made smoothies, pesto, pâté and I made Cooper a pinkalicious raspberry and vanilla milkshake.
I decided it was time to make a milkshake for me. Something a bit more luxurious. Something more suitable for adults. I used figs, prunes and avocado and flavoured the milk with cinnamon. I really enjoyed it. Something quite different. The flavours were spicy and warming.
My Vitamix blends very smoothly, but if your blender isn't as powerful, you could strain the milk before serving it.
You could also heat this milk for a comforting winter drink.
Fig, Prune & Avocado Milk
A comforting milky drink for adults. Lovely served warm on a cold night.
Ingredients
- ½ avocado
- 4 Agen prunes
- 1 fig
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pint, more if you would like a thinner drink milk
Instructions
1. Remove the flesh from half an avocado. Leave the stone in the half you are not using. This will slow down discolouration.2. Whizz up all the ingredients in a blender until smooth.3. If your flavoured milk isn't smooth enough, strain before serving. You may add more milk if it is a little thick.4. Serve cold or warm with a dusting of cinnamon.

So, this is just regular dairy milk? Huh. I can't say that I've ever had figs in a smoothie - but it sounds like you're really using the HECK out of that machine, and I'm a bit envious it can make fig pips smooth enough to drink. Sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteJust regular milk, but you could use soya milk. I really am getting a lot of use out of the vitamix it has been a boon and the milk was a real treat.
DeleteNow that sounds like an interesting combination I've never tried before and your new machine sounds amazing Jac. Gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Choclette, I was pleased by how well the flavoured milk turned out. It was quite thick, so if you make it have more milk to hand in case you want a thinner drink.
DeleteVery grown up.
ReplyDeleteFor me, yes :)
DeleteLove these flavours Jac. Very creative use of your new toy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa :)
DeleteI'm very intrigued by this idea, Jac. I will give it a go this week!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it Charlotte. If it gets too thick, just add some more milk.
Deletewow that is fancy - and so are the colours in those photos - really lovely
ReplyDeleteThanks Johanna.
DeleteFor as original as it is, it sounds really delicious, I will be trying it, might be nice for an afternoon snack for Pablo too!
ReplyDeleteHope he enjoys it then Helene. Cooper had some, he seemed to quite enjoy it.
