Yes, I have been using my Vitamix again. This time I counted the calories, so I could have a treat on the fast days of my 5:2 Diet.
I added a bit of fizz to my smoothie with some white grape Shloer (a non-alcoholic fizzy drink), but you could add some apple juice instead. If you really wanted a spot of luxury, you could turn this into a cocktail by replacing the Shloer with champagne.
Whichever way you make this smoothie, you are sure to enjoy it and benefit from adding extra portions of fruit and veg into your day.
If you aren't lucky enough to have a Vitamix, juice the carrot before adding it. Alternatively you could chop the carrot finely, grate it, or steam and mash it before adding it to your blender.

5:2 update: I am pleased to say my 5:2 diet is going very well. I am finding it easy now that I know what I can have without thinking too much about it.
I now have two meals a day instead of spreading the calories out, which I did to begin with and I am trying to stick to under 500 calories rather than 600 calories. I drink plenty of water, but don't have a meal until lunchtime, when I have something light. This leaves me with more calories for my evening meal, which leaves me feeling more satisfied.
I feel really positive and full of energy on my fast days and I am finding it easier to ignore the cravings in the evening. Weight lose is slow, but steady and I have lost 6lbs (approx 3 kg) so far, which I am really pleased about.
Your Dunelm card trick is really effective. I'm going to have to get some when I'm in town next weekend! As soon as I saw the glass, I thought "vitamix" ha ha. Looks lovely, nice and fresh.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice, it is really tasty and fresh.
DeleteYou should get the card, it is really effective. I will just have to be careful not to use it too often.
That sounds lovely - really refreshing and fruity for your fast days. Glad to hear it's going well for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Caroline :)
DeleteThe more I read your posts about this diet the more I want to make it!!!!
ReplyDeleteActually I don't need a diet...I have just to lose 2 kg I put on during my holidays...but this diet sounds so good!!!
I'll let you know what I decide!
Yes, do let me know Manu :)
DeleteIt's not just about losing weight, Manu it's about being healthier by cutting down your body's production of IGF1 by reducing your protein intake.
DeleteMike, thanks for telling me...
DeleteJacqueline, the first day is gone...a great one!
DeleteCereal bar for breakfast

ReplyDeleteI love carrots in a smoothie, such a good flavour.
DeleteWell done - its not easy trying to be 'good' is it ;0)
ReplyDeleteI love to start the day with a smoothie, this is a great combo.

ReplyDeleteToday is my first day of the diet. I think I'll wait until lunch for my first meal. I've had a cup of tea with a wee splash of milk. Might have another.
ReplyDeleteCalories?
I hope today went well Paul. Not sure how many calories in the tea, not much I would think. I am afraid I don't drink coffee or tea.
DeleteGood for you for successfully continuing your diet - you're a better woman than me, I'm notoriously bad with diets. And slow weight loss is the best anyway.
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful photo of that lovely looking fresh drink! I hope you don't mind if I pin it.
Of course you can pin it Emma. I like to think of this as more of a lifestyle change than a diet, but only time will tell.
DeleteOh I love your polka dot glasses, they are awesome! and love the idea of adding some shloer to your smoothie - what great flavour combos!
ReplyDeleteThey are great aren't they? They are from the pampered chef. I do love them. The flavour combo was good too :)
DeleteThe best way to lose weight is slowly :)
ReplyDeleteI am hoping you are right Tandy :)
DeleteHi Jacqueline. I found your site when researching the 5:2 diet. You have some great info. and i love your spicy tomato and lentil soup - really belly filling as opposed to poached chicken breast! Could I make a request though regarding your recipes? Living in South America I have no way to measure pints, so it would be helpful if you gave litres/ml.
ReplyDeleteI have actually been following the 500 cal alternate day diet after watching the Horizon programme on YouTube - I thought I would see how it went and if I couldn't handle it I would change to the 5:2. It helps that I work from home and am really busy, but I have had no hunger pangs. In fact I have bursts of increased energy.
I find I have more energy on my fast days. I suppose my system is lighter and less sluggish. I will try to remember and give other measurements :)
DeleteThis looks lovely Jac. And how much do we love the Vitamix? I am an addict already.
ReplyDeleteMe too Helen. It is my favourite thing!!
