Strawberry and elderflower cocktail
This strawberry and elderflower cocktail is the perfect summer drink (for adults).
So many cocktails have an artificial flavour, but this one tastes like fresh crushed strawberries with a hint of elderflower.
Just glorious.
Imagine sharing a jug of this with friends in the garden or sipping it while you watch the latest movie on a Saturday night.
It's a must-have for summer.
Fresh or frozen strawberries?
This glorious cocktail is best made with fresh strawberries when they are in season.
However, if you get a craving or want to try something different in the winter months, you can use frozen strawberries.
They sometimes work out cheaper.
Be careful blending frozen strawberries
Just let the frozen strawberries defrost in your fridge before blending this cocktail.
If you blend it when the berries are frozen, one of two things will happen.
- If you have a high-speed blender, you will end up with an iced drink like a slushie, but alcoholic.
- If you don't have a high-speed blender, your motor could burn out, breaking your blender.
Make it a mocktail for kids
If you want to make a non-alcoholic version of this cocktail for kids or anyone who doesn't want to drink alcohol, you can make a simple swap and it's equally delicious.
Just swap the spirits in the recipe for lemonade.
Do try it, it's lush!
What you need to make this cocktail (or mocktail)
Here are the simple ingredients you need to make this glorious strawberry summer drink.
- Fresh strawberries
- Vodka (or more lemonade for a mocktail version)
- Lemonade
- Elderflower cordial
- Ice cubes (if you have a blender powerful enough to blend ice)
Variation
Swap the lemonade with a fizzy grape juice like Shloer for a tasty variation.
Or you could use sparkling water, fizzy apple juice or even fizzy orange juice.
Cocktail for one
This recipe is just enough for one to enjoy.
You can easily double it or make as much as you like. My recipe card has a drop-down menu beside the quantity where you can choose how many portions you want to make.
Just go wild, well not too wild unless you are making it as a mocktail.

Prep time: 5 MinTotal time: 5 Min
Ingredients
- 75g (2 1/2 oz) strawberries, stalks removed
- 50 ml (scant 3 tablespoons) vodka (mocktail notes below)
- 30 ml (1 1/2 tablespoons) elderflower cordial
- enough lemonade to top up your glass
- a few cubes ice (if you have a blender or food processor with a strong enough motor to blend ice)
Instructions
- Put the fruit into a jug (or the jug of a blender, and add the vodka or elderflower cordial (see notes for mocktail)
- Using a blender or stick blender, blend until smooth. If you have a powerful blender you can add the ice now)

- You can also add slices of strawberry to the cocktail.
- Enjoy!
Notes
Use the option in the recipe card at the top to scale up this recipe for more cocktails.
To make a mocktail, skip the vodka and add more lemonade.
You can use frozen strawberries, but defrost them first in the fridge, if you don't have a powerful blender as it could damage the motor.

ReplyDeletejust heard from E's family how dreich the weather is over your side of the world - what a summer! scandal, riots and no sunshine! Hope the sun might spare you a few rays before it heads down our way
ReplyDeleteHey Johanna, Well not in Scotland, the scandal and riots that is. We have lenty of downpours though. We will have a pond instead of a garden soon.
ReplyDeleteI love this cocktail, so pretty, and refreshing. Love the ingredients...really elegant, as well:DDD
ReplyDeleteI've given up on the summer as well; the leak in the kitchen is convincing me we should give up on this flat, quickly!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to settle in a bit closer - and hopefully find some good fresh things like elderflower from the local farms and such. I'd like to try and make my own, and this sounds like a lovely drink, even sans vodka!
Thanks Elizabeth :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be delicious without the vodka Tanita, maybe with some lemonade instead.
You must be excited to have somewhere new to explore. Looking forward to visiting you there x
This looks so nice and refreshing...Perfect for the summers...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds delicious, even without the vodka it would be lovely. Peeing down with rain again today, I had to drive two hours to Ayr and back in driving rain behind big trucks grrrr!
ReplyDeleteSummer is defo a wash out! But this cocktail could help me think otherwise (while ever I have my eyes closed lol). Yum.
ReplyDeleteI think summer was in April, no?..
ReplyDeleteCocktail looks fab and refreshing! I've not tried that cordial before so will hunt some down!
And also thanks for reminder on lightbox, I printed off instructions to make one yonks back and still haven't gotten around to it!
This sounds divine. My sister introduced me to the elderflower cordial this summer and I meant to pick some up when I returned home. I'd forgotten all about it! Thanks for the reminder. YUM!
ReplyDeleteIt is it's lovely Neha :)
ReplyDeleteYou should make this then Janice, it would perk up your evening, but not too many on a school night mind!
We can always pretend Chele :)
I think you are right Anne, summer was in April. The cordials are rather special.
I love elderflower too Mary, I like it in these cordials and in Shloer too.
I tried elderflower syrup for the first time not that long ago and have been searching for it ever since.
ReplyDeleteIt's great, isn't it Val? You will have to google Bottlegreen and see if it available in Canada.
