Strawberry season is drawing to a close, which makes me sad. I wait and wait for berry season to arrive and when it does it's such a joyful time for me, but it never seems to last long enough.
My favourite berries are strawberries, closely followed by raspberries. How about you?
As the season ends, I'll be predictably be going mad and eating punnet after punnet as well as having fun with them and adding them to smoothies, cakes and floats like this Strawberry and Vanilla Float with Sprinkles. Yes, there has to be sprinkles!
Just look at them. Drool!!!!
So after guzzling them like a mad thing, I made this strawberry and vanilla float and finished it off with sprinkles and a stripey paper straw. Who could resist?
I have wonderful memories of my mum making me coke floats in the Summer when I was a child. I wanted to capture that memory and update it using the best of what's left of the season's strawberries. I've added a little bit of my childhood and used cream soda in the float too. Happy days!
Strawberry and Vanilla Float with Sprinkles
A fresh strawberry float with ice cream and cream soda. A fabulous drink from childhood using the last of the season's strawberries and topped with sprinkles.
Ingredients
- 3 large strawberries
- 1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 150 - 200ml cream soda
- a squirt whipped cream
- ½ tsp sprinkles
Instructions
1. Whizz up the strawberries until they are a smooth sauce. If they are a little tart, you can add a little sugar or honey. I use my Optimum 9200a for everything like this, but you could use a hand blender or potato masher.2. Pour the strawberry sauce into a glass.3. Add 1-2 scoops of ice cream.4. Pour cream soda over the ice cream. Do it slowly as it will froth up a lot.5. Finish the float with a squirt of cream and some sprinkles.6. Serve with a stripey paper straw.7. Enjoy!
