It was a success! Yeah!
I have made several pizza bases from recipe and packet, but none have ever hit the spot! Back in July I got a great recipe for a thick crust or what I would call a deep pan pizza from Shelly over at Kitchen Ranch. Her pizza just looked great! I filed the recipe and forgot all about it.
Boy was it worth the wait!
I topped my pizza with a really simple pizza sauce, mushrooms, onion, mozzarella, freshly ground pepper and dried oregano. You will notice that my pizza is quite well done, I like my pizza to be really crispy and starting to brown!

It's the weekend, I have pizza, a glass of red wine and a movie.
What more does a girl need?
- Pour the warm water in a bowl. Add salt and the package of yeast and allow to sit for 5 minutes
- Add 1 cup of flour as well as the olive oil and mix well. Add the rest of the flour and form the dough into a ball
- Knead the ball for a couple minutes until it starts to become stretchy.
- Cover the dough with a tea towel and leave to rise for an hour. The dough will double in size.
- Knock the dough back.
- Cover and leave to rise for another hour.
- Roll the dough out with a rolling pin.

D's the pizza fan in our house. He's mad about them. We like Nigella's idea of using plain naan as a base - it works a treat!
ReplyDeleteWill try your sauce out next time we have them. :)
Holler, you should really post the last pizza photo...yum-world!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, I liked the naan bread bases too, they are a must if you are short of time, but if you do have time, it is worth making this base!
ReplyDeleteHi Sneaky Pete, I will try to stop that now!
I think you are right, I will go back and add the pizza photo to the start of the post! I wonder though how long it takes to load on other people's pcs?
It is done, I have added the photo of the finished pizza! Boy it looks brown, does anyone else like their pizza brown like this or am I weird?
ReplyDeleteWill have to try it out - I've been looking for a good pizza recipe for ages. Cool slide show :-) And no, you're definitely not weird - I like a crunchy, well-done pizza base too. Nothing worse than a pale, claggy, undercooked bit of dough!
ReplyDeleteOne doesn't wish to contemplate "what a girl needs" ... but a pizza? Sure! Popcorn ... chocolate .... these things are all ... what a girl needs. :) Sounds good, though. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, Glad you like the slideshow, it's my new toy!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you are right, claggy pizza is a no-no!
Hi David, I am not a fan of popcorn. Chocolate, fairly regularly and pizza, now and again. What this girl really wants is to sit down in the evening with a nice glass of wine!
Looks absolutely mouthwatering!
ReplyDeleteIt was Pia! I just love mushrooms!
ReplyDeleteThat pizza looks really good! I should make pizza at home more often.
ReplyDeleteYum! You are an inspiration! I really should try making my own dough!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Pizza is the universal food and can be enjoyed by all...meatlovers, veggies and vegans too. My daughter no longer puts mozzarella on her pizza and just has all fresh toppings and feta cheese baked in the oven.
ReplyDeleteLooks tasty. Home-made pizza always hits the spot
ReplyDeleteAah, you'll have my OH round soon - ht loves the deep pan variety pizza, I'm more a thin 'n crispy gal.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making such a great looking pizza! And the little slide show is so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour sauce sounds good and rich!
Nice job and I wish I was close enough to pop over and enjoy a slice and a glass of wine with you! No better way to spend the weekend!
Friday night is pizza night in our house, and me and Cerys (my 3 year old) make a right mess in the kitchen designing pizzas. Great post.
ReplyDeleteCheers
David
Yum! That looks lovely Holler. You've made me hungry for pizza now!
ReplyDeleteHoller, I love how your pizza turned out-it looks delicious. Your crust is perfectly browned! The slides are superb (is punching the dough not the best ever?)
ReplyDeletelooks lovely - I like a crispy top on my pizza too - it is worth waiting a bit longer
